Generate Website Traffic With Search Engine Optimization Part 1

This is the first post of a series of posts I plan on doing designed to help you get better search engine rankings and help you generate and increase more website traffic through search engine optimization.

Most of the websites I develop are Wordpress Blogs so this entire series is going to be based around how you can optimize a Wordpress blog for the search engine rankings.

Frankly if you’re not using a Wordpress Blog you’re just missing out because the search engines, particularly Google, love Wordpress Blogs and the Wordpress Blogs themselves are easy to set up (just takes the click of one button), they’re easy to optimize for the search engines and new plugins (widgets that extend the functionality of Wordpress) are always being released that allow to do even more with your Blogs.

Enough about Wordpress… let’s talk about Meta Description Tags

Meta Description Tags are important because they show up on search results just under the title of your website or blog and oftentimes a crafty meta description tag can be used to entice the searcher to click on your link instead of any of the others also appearing on the same page of results.

To change the Meta Description Tags on my Wordpress Blogs I usually install the All-In-One-Seo-Pack Plugin. This Wordpress Plugin does a whole lot more then just meta description tags but that’s what we’re working on today so we’ll stick to that…

Once you have the plugin installed on your Wordpress Blog, click on settings and then click on All in One SEO.

You can change or update your meta description tags by filling out the box labeled Home Description. Remember to keep your meta description tags to about 20 words.

It’s a good idea to do a search for your targeted keywords and see what meta description tags other webmasters are using if you’re having trouble coming p with your own ideas. Something controversial or catchy is always good…

All In One SEO pack also allows you to change the meta description tags on each individual post you make to your Blog…
